Hackerspace

A hackerspace, sometimes shortened as hacklab or just lab is a physical space for people, who interact with each other informally as part of their membership to a friendly community of hackers, seekers, thinkers and dreamers.

What is init Lab?
init Lab is a shared space where you can:

  • Work on your projects
  • Meet all kinds of people
  • Share knowledge and skills
  • Attend and organize events
  • Find new friends, coworkers, maybe even co-founders for your startup
  • To have fun being creative
  • Get inspired

What do we actually do?

  • We have fun.
  • We create. We build software, hardware, systems and other weird stuff.
  • We experiment. With everything we are interested in.
  • We teach each other. Knowledge is contagious. You can get some pointers from a professional, find educational materials and get advice.
  • We encourage. Anyone should do what they love or have even a bit of interest in.

Who is init Lab for?

  • It takes all sorts, techies, artists, freelancers, gamers and everybody else who feels like they belong.

What do we have?

init Lab’s current incarnation is situated in Sofia’s center at 64A Tsar Asen str., on the top floor of a large house right next to the National Palace of Culture. The third floor is reached by an accessibility-unfriendly narrow stairwell. On the floor you can find:

  • A large room featuring a projector and a roll-up screen. Here you can also find the hardware corner with a soldering station, hot air gun, measuring equipment and bench power supplies. The Club-Mate fridge and snacks can also be found here. We have a couple of tables with a capacity of no more than 20 people, which are suitable for events or working on a project.
  • A smaller room dedicated to audiovisual pursuits. Musical instruments, cameras, recording equipment, the works.
  • The kitchen, also home to init Lab’s 3D printers and a relaxation area with books and bean bags.

What kind of events we make?

A multitude of events takes place at init Lab. These include courses, presentations, discussions, community meetings, hackathons, LAN parties, board games, one-off gatherings of any kind, and many others. You can subscribe to our calendar so you don’t miss an event, or organize one by contacting us.
